We could play some older games, although Fred might yell out 'lame' or something to that effect but if you get enough people intrested we could give them a go. Having new releases might distract people from going to some of the classics.

and there are updated versions of battlefield 42, that are better.

:o AIR BUCCANEERS!

But if you think ZH is a pain to install, with Air Buccaneers don't you need to install UT2004 and then the mod?

I think that is just fred's way of saying he can't be bothered. Air Buccaneers on the other hand is completely worth it :-)

I'd be up for some old school RTS like Starcraft but I'll pass on Diablo since I prefer competitive multiplayer games at lans and not story driven co-op games.

Well I've been playing a bit of borderlands lately. Hopefully we might be able to find some kind of workaround so we can play MW2 and L4D2 at the lan since we wont be able to have steam online. It's getting a bit frustrating that games aren't including lan functionality. I'm not really into Epic RPG's so I haven't picked up Dragon Age. I think thats the main big games. I don't think I have anything else on my radar before the lan. Maybe Dirt 2 depending on how it reviews and I've been playing the Monkey Island games... looks like another episode is out soon.

Pro-tip: It's always good to make sure everything on steam works in offline mode before you leave home :-)

We had a working lan version of l4d2 at the last lan but I don't recall anyone playing it because everyone was too busy playing COD ;-) We had some epic UT04 matches in the early days.

We played a last man standing match in UT once with 100 lives with about 12 people on the largest map we could find. It was full on deathmatch for about 2 hours non-stop.

I thought multiplayer was taken out of the PC version of Ghostbusters. I was really looking forward to playing Ghostbusters but never got past the tutorial because the Voices were really out of sync for me for some reason. Like 1s out - with a different person on screen to the one I was hearing. It was pretty unbearable for a game that the story was half the game. The gameplay seemed fun but I couldn't get over the faulty sound.

Steam often include fixes for the offline mode in updates but it always seems glitchy. But maybe thats about to change. I thought this latest steam update was kinda funny.

Steam wrote:
March 2, 2010 - Steam client update released
A Steam client update is now available. To apply the update, click the File menu inside of Steam and then select "Check for Steam Client Updates...". The specific changes include:

Steam Client

    - Fixed not always decrypting a game on launch
    - Really fixed offline mode not always working
    - Fixed cases where a game would stop downloading for no reason

Just been thinking about the games I got in the past few days that could be really fun lan games if they work. Ready for when we get together next... either BSLAN026, minilan or over hamachi.

Blur - NFS style racing game with Mario Cart/Wipeout style powerups :-) Could even [/color]be described as Flatout with powerups. Looks like it has the potential for 20player races over lan!

Lead and Gold - A TF2 style class based game set in Wild West. Uses Steam but hopefully we can get around that.

MW2 - Finally, looks like I've found a mod to make it work over lan but I'm not holding my breath.

Haven't had a chance to test it properly with my 2nd PC not hooked up at the moment. And I think Hollis has the gigabit switch not that running through my router is much different. Maybe you'll just have to come over for a test run.
